SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Creighton women finished 31st and the men 29th at the NCAA Midwest Cross Country Regional on Friday. Among the field of 60 combined teams were Nebraska, Iowa, Iowa State, North Dakota, North Dakota State and South Dakota State.
Iowa State (63) finished first on the women’s side. Oklahoma State (95) and Minnesota (96) finished second and third respectively. For the men, in-state rivals Oklahoma and Oklahoma State (45) finished tied for first. They were followed by Tulsa (47). Individually, Betsy Saina of Iowa State finished first with a time of 19:51. On the men’s side, Chris O’Hare of Tulsa finished with a time of 30:25.
For the Jays, Meghan Barry led the women. The sophomore finished 176th with a time of 24:15. Freshman Emily Mauser was the second to cross the line for Creighton, finishing 183rd, clocking in at 24:23. Sophomore Courtney Sawle finished 187th, finishing the 6k race in 24:27. Freshman Emily Peterson (192nd, 24:36) and junior Meagan Wilderson (205th, 25:21) also competed in the Regional.
Mike Hitt led the Bluejay men, the senior finished 145th with a time of 33:55. Freshman Garrett Kenyon finished 174th clocking in at 35:04. Danny Diaz was the third Jay to cross the line, the junior finished 184th with a time of 36:08. Senior Tom Shimp (187th, 36:37) and sophomore Drew Prescott (188th, 37:17) also completed the 10k race.
The meet was the final one of the fall for Creighton.
