LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Creighton women finished 14th and the men 23rd at the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. on Saturday morning. There were 94 women's and 96 men's teams that competed in the classic which was split into gold, silver and blue races. The Creighton men competed in the 33-team blue race and the women in the 32-team blue race.
Unattached runner Bailey Bunyan ran the men's blue race in 24:49. Missouri State's Terry Phillips finished first on the women's side running the course in 17:52. Lipscomb University won the men's blue race and Missouri State women took top team honors.
In what's becoming a common theme for the Creighton women, freshmen Meghan Barry and Courtney Sawle were the top runners. In each race this fall either Barry or Sawle has been the first Creighton runner to finish. Barry finished 14th overall with a time of 18:30 and Sawle finished just 11 seconds behind Barry with a time of 18:41 good for 21st overall. Sophomore Meagan Wilderson rounded out Creighton's top three. Her time of 19:24 was good for 77th overall.
Junior Izzy Squires (124th, 19:51), sophomore Lauren Hintz (176th, 20:28) and freshman Katie Huyck (186th, 20:46) also ran in the 5k race.
For the second straight race Chris Culhane led the Creighton men. The junior finished the blue race 23rd of 285 runners with a time of 25:35. Senior Casey Jergenson was Creighton's second best runner with a time of 26:23 good for 97th place. Mike Hitt finished 135th overall and finished third for the Jays. The junior finished the course in 26:41.
Also completing the 8k course was freshmen Drew Prescott (143rd, 26:47), Steve Raimondi (185th, 27:13), junior Tom Shimp (205th, 27:29), sophomore Danny Diaz (247th, 28:25), freshmen Quinn Biever (252nd, 28:31), and Tin Nguyen (255th, 28:37), and sophomore Joe Hamel (263rd, 28:50).
The teams hit the ground running again in two weeks on Friday, Oct. 14 at the Bradley Classic in Peoria, Ill.
