OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton cross country programs have been honored for their work in the classroom as USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Teams, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association has announced.
The Creighton women's team had a team GPA of 3.66 that ranked tied for sixth-best nationally, while the Creighton men were tied for 25th with a 3.40 team GPA.
In addition to naming Villanova as its Female Scholar Team
of the Year for the second straight season, the USTFCCCA also announced 192 men’s teams who earned 2010
Division I All-Academic Cross Country status. A total of 192
institutions represent 30 conferences that compose the group. Alabama reported the highest cumulative GPA among
All-Academic honorees with a 3.88. Missouri State and Arkansas State followed with a
3.70. Four of the top six women's teams were from the Missouri Valley Conference. Creighton had three women earn perfect 4.0 GPA's last fall.
In addition to naming Florida State University as its Male Scholar Team of the Year, the USTFCCCA also announced 152 men’s teams who earned 2010 Division I All-Academic Cross Country status. A total of 152 institutions represent 31 conferences that compose the group. Mississippi Valley State reported the highest cumulative GPA among All-Academic honorees with a 3.62. Creighton had three men earn perfect 4.0 GPA's last fall. Southern Illinois followed with a 3.60. Last year, Creighton's men tied for the national lead with a 3.67 team GPA.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at their respective NCAA regional championship.
