OMAHA, Neb. - After hearing each of their names called in the MLB Draft, Mike Gerber, Jake Peter and Bryan Sova have all agreed to terms with their respective Major League teams and have reported for rookie ball. Terms of their former Bluejays' respective contracts have not been disclosed.
Peter, who left Creighton after his junior season, was selected in the seventh round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft with the 198th overall pick by the Chicago White Sox on Friday, June 6 and has reported to the White Sox facility in Arizona.
"The time I spent at Creighton were the best three years of my life. It was not an easy decision for me to leave my coaches or the Creighton community and especially my teammates," said Peter. "I would do anything for those guys, but I know they support my decision. I want to say thank you to everybody that made my time at Creighton University the best it could be and I will forever be a Bluejay."
As seniors Gerber and Sova had an easier decision to sign their respective offers. Taken in the 15th Round by the Detroit Tigers with the 460th overall pick, Gerber is at the Tigers facility in Tampa. Gerber echoed the comments shared by Peter.
"My four years at Creighton are a time I will never forget. I will forever be a Bluejay," said Gerber.
Sova meanwhile is also in Florida after being selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 25th round with the overall 742nd pick.
"My two years at Creighton were unforgettable. I never thought I would have the success that I did, when I first came here," said Sova. "There were so many people that helped make it happen, I'm glad I can call myself a Creighton Bluejay."
