OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton women's soccer head coach Bruce Erickson has announced the signing of eight players that make up his 2013 class. The new group of Bluejays are made up of three defensive players, two midfielders, one forward and two goalkeepers.
"This class as a whole comes with high expectations and loads of talent. We have recruited quality players who demonstrate the ability to contribute immediately," said head coach Bruce Erickson. "This group also brings the qualities we expect: character, academic excellence and willingness to contribute to our community. We are excited to get to work with them."
A 5'7'' defender from San Ramon, Calif., Grace Cabri will join Creighton after leading St. Mary's High School in Stockton, Calif. to a combined 86-5-3 record in her first three seasons. The Rams' team captain in 2013, Cabri was an All-San Joaquin First-Team selection as both a junior and as a freshman.
Darby Hugunin will join the midfield ranks for the Jays after earning a combined eight letters in soccer (four) and basketball (four) at Lincoln High School in Sioux Falls, S.D. Hugunin was the Patriots offensive MVP in 2013, notching 14 goals and eight assists. Over her four-year career, Hugunin has posted 34 goals and 22 assists.
Paige Jarsombeck comes to Creighton from Tinley Park, Ill. The forward focused on year-round club soccer over playing at the high school level. Jarsombeck led the Eclipse ECNL (Elite Clubs National League) squad to a 36-3 mark from 2009-13. During the 2012 season alone, Jarsombeck collected a staggering 14 goals and 12 assists.
One of two goalkeepers coming to Omaha in 2013, Michaela Moen hails from Frisco, Texas. Moen led Wakeland HS to the 2010-11 4A State Title and has been the starting goalkeeper for the Wolverines since her freshman season. Moen also is an outstanding student, ranking fourth in her class of over 400. In addition, Moen has ties to the Nebraska area as she was born in Lincoln, Neb.
Jessica Mutters comes to Creighton from Darien, Ill., where she played one season of high school soccer as a freshman. The 5'6'' defender transitioned to club soccer for the last three years, playing for the Eclipse North Select Soccer team.
A 5'10'' goalkeeper from Westlake, Texas, Danielle Rice joins the Bluejays following a stellar career at Keller High School. Playing a combined 3,960 minutes in her final three seasons, Rice allowed just 12 goals. Translating those numbers, she would have posted a 0.27 goals against average.
A local product, Emily Roll comes to Creighton from Gretna High School. Roll led the Dragons to the class B State Title in 2012. The 5'5'' defender led Gretna to an 18-1 mark in 2012 and a combined record of 52-7 over her first three seasons. Her play garnered Eastern Midlands First-Team honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior. Roll also claimed First-Team All-State Selections in 2011 and 2012.
Lauren Sullivan will compete at the forward and midfield positions at Creighton. Standing 5'5'', Sullivan played for Staley High School in Kansas City, Mo. She led the Falcons to a combined 59-20 record in her first three seasons, delivering a staggering 103 goals as she entered play in her senior season. Sullivan broke the Staley record for goals scored in a season as a freshman with 36, then raised that mark with 37 goals as a sophomore. She also had 46 career assists in her first three seasons. A three-time all-conference first-team selection, Sullivan hopes to make an immediate impact for the Jays.
