WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The Creighton men’s golf team finished tied for 11th with Akron at the Boilermaker Invitational on Sunday. The 18-team field included South Dakota, South Dakota State and host school Purdue.
The Jays finished the par-72 7,465 yard Kampen Golf Course at the Birck Boilermaker Complex with a team score of 911 (306-301-304).
Louisville (295-292-291) and Iowa (290-287-301) finished tied for first after firing team scores of 878 and Illinois finished third with an 880 (296-287-297).
Iowa’s Steven Ihm (71-70-70) and Louisville’s Robin Sciot-Siegrist (71-71-69) tied for first with a 211 and Kent State's Taylor Pendrith (73-72-70=215) finished third.
Individually for the Jays, Ben Lowman was the top golfer. The senior finished tied for 32nd with a 225 (78-72-75). Fellow senior Johnny Spellerberg finished tied for 37th with a 231 (74-77-80). Freshman Steffen Lake (73-78-78=229) finished tied for 45th and junior Daniel McKernan finished tied for 60th with a 232. Senior John Rasmussen also had a strong showing in the invite finishing tied for 86th shooting a 253 (86-85-82).
The Jays now look ahead to the Missouri Valley Championships April 29-30 in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
