LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Creighton men's cross country team finished seventh and the women 15th at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invite at Pioneers Park on Saturday. Nebraska, Nebraska Omaha, Wichita State, Northern Iowa, UMKC, North Dakota and Kansas State participated in the invite.
Host school Nebraska won team honors on the men’s side and Wichita State finished first on the women’s side.
Wichita State’s Chris Burnett finished the 8K run first overall with a time of 24:58, while Courtney Frerichs of UMKC won the women’s event with a 20:57.
Newcomer Maddie Ivy led the Bluejays in the 6K run. She finished 15th with a time of 23:00. Courtney Sawle finished 49th with a time of 24:05. Emily Peterson’s 24:37 was good enough for 63rd. Vanessa Miller finished 65th with a time of 24:41. Rounding out the top five Bluejays was Emily Mauser, who finished 67th with a time of 25:07. CU's 15th place showing included a field of 26 teams, but the Jays ranked eighth among the Division I teams in the field.
For the men Garrett Kenyon was the top Bluejay. He finished 36th with a time of 27:02. Drew Prescott finished 49th with a time of 27:35. Patrick Reinschmidt finished 56th with a time of 27:59. Tin Nguyen placed fourth for the Jays. His time of 28:08 was good enough for 59th place. Daniel Poston finished just four spots behind Nguyen with a time of 28:31 to finish in the men’s top five.
The Jays compete in the Roy Griak Invite on Sept. 28 in Minneapolis, Minn.
