OMAHA, Neb . - Creighton Volleyball's "Blue" team defeated the "White" team in four sets in the lone exhibition contest of the fall on Friday night at D.J. Sokol Arena inside the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center. Scores in favor of the Blue team, which included likely starters Michelle Sicner, Kelli Browning and Melanie Jereb, were 25-20, 25-22, 25-27, 15-11.
The contest included 16 players, including assistant coaches Tom Mendoza and Amanda Sjuts and practice player Andres Rodriguez-Burns, with several players seeing time with both sides during the match.
The team's 2012 leader in kills, Leah McNary, led all players with 14 kills and hit.387. She was one of five players on the night with double-digit kills.
Kenzie Crawford set for the White squad all night and had a match-high 42 assists in her first action as a collegian, adding 12 digs.
Nine players had double-figure digs on the evening, paced by 22 from sophomore Ashley Jansen and 19 by Sicner. Both teams tallied exactly 82 digs on the evening.
Creighton's traditionally strong block was in midseason form as well, as the two sides combined for 26 blocks in the contest. Savannah Smith had 11 blocks in the match to lead all players.
Ranked 25th nationally, Creighton opens the regular-season next Friday with a match vs. No. 13 BYU as part of the Hampton Inn Invitational in Bowling Green, Ohio.
