TUCSON, Ariz. -- Bluejay Baseball staff ace, Tommy Strunc, was named a Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American on Wednesday, June 5 by staffers from Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
Strunc led Creighton with seven victories in his 14 appearances, he also led the Jays in innings pitched (71.2) and strikeouts (55). He closed the 2013 campaign with a 4.14 ERA and an impressive .201 opposing batting average. Strunc took no-hitters into at least the seventh inning in two differing games in his first season on the mound for the Jays.
A native of Highlands Ranch, Colo., Strunc is the fifth Creighton representative since 1999 to earn Freshman All-America accolades. Past honorees include Mike Gerber (2011), Casey Schmidt (2007), Tony Roth (2002) and Scott Yahraus (1999).
Under the direction of Ed Servais, Creighton finished the 2013 season with a 30-18 record.
