Scouting Creighton (9-5-1, 2-3-1 BIG EAST): Facing just its second two-match losing streak of the season, Creighton battles another of the BIG EAST top dogs in Georgetown on Sunday. The Bluejays match at Georgetown is their conference road finale.
After scoring in bunches early in the season, Creighton has knocked in more than one goal in merely one BIG EAST match (a 3-2 win at Providence). The decline in offensive output has placed increased pressure on freshman goalkeeper Danielle Rice. Although the Texas native has notched four shutouts, including two in BIG EAST play, she has allowed two goals in the other four conference contests.
To topple the Hoyas, Creighton will not leading scorer Kirstyn Corder to get back on track. Corder scored the game winning goal at Providence and at Seton Hall, but has not had a goal since the 1-0 win over the Pirates on Oct. 6.
Scouting Georgetown (12-1-2, 4-1-1 BIG EAST) One of the preseason favorites in the BIG EAST, Georgetown has lived up to the hype with an impressive 12-1-2 mark this season. The Hoyas only stumbles in BIG EAST action was a conference opening tie with DePaul and a 4-0 loss to Marquette. With the Blue Demons facing Marquette on Sunday, Georgetown can all but secure a bye into the BIG EAST Tournament with a victory on Sunday.
The Hoyas strength has been their second half play, outscoring opponents 29-6. The tandem of Kaitlin Brenn and Daphne Corboz are tied for the team lead with 22 points, Brenn has reached the total with eight goals and six assists, while Corboz has six goals and 10 helpers.
Three different Hoyas have seen time in the net in 2013, but the primary goalkeeper has been Emma Newins. Sporting a 9-1-1 record thsi season, Newins has 44 saves and a 0.72 Goals Against Average (GAA).
