OMAHA, Neb. - Junior Federico Castagnini drove in a season-high four runs and junior Mike Gerber went 3-for-5 with three RBI as the Creighton Baseball team defeated Kansas, 12-4, before 1,676 fans at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha on Tuesday, April 16.

With the win the Jays moved to 19-9, while Kansas dropped to 22-14.  Creighton swept both games from the Jayhawks this season, and has now won the last five meetings with Kansas.

After Kansas scored twice in the top of the first inning, the Jays answered with three runs and would not trail again. Gerber's two-run triple past a diving Tucker Tharp in left-center plated junior Brad McKewon and sophomore Jake Peter.  Gerber came around to score on senior Alex Staehely's sacrifice fly to make it 3-2 later in the frame.

CU's lead stretched to 4-2 in the second inning after freshman Ryan Fitzgerald walked and later scored on sophomore Kevin Lamb's single.

Kansas would score twice to tie it in the fourth inning, taking advantage of three walks and two wild pitches to tie the score at 4-all on Kevin Kuntz's two-run single before senior Mark Winkelman escaped the jam by inducing a flyout.

CU answered KU's score with two of its own in the bottom of the fourth frame. Castagnini's double into the left-field corner scored Lamb and McKewon, giving CU the lead for good.

The Jays added insurance in the sixth and seventh innings with three runs in each frame.  Sophomore Landon Lucansky's first career triple started the sixth inning, which also included a McKewon double and RBI single from Gerber. The seventh inning was keyed by an RBI single from McKewon and a two-run single up the middle by Castagnini.

Creighton threw a TD Ameritrade Park Omaha record nine pitchers in the contest, with no one throwing more than two innings. Winkelman earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings to improve to 5-0 this spring. Six different Bluejays had multiple hits on the day, paced by Gerber's fifth three-hit day of the year. The top five hitters in the CU line-up went 11-for-22 with three walks while accounting for half of the team's 12 runs.

KU starter Tanner Poppe dropped to 2-3 with the loss, allowing six runs in 3.1 innings. THe Jayhawk offense was paced by two hits from Alex DeLeon and also earned eight walks for the day.

The Jays return to action on Friday, April 19 as Creighton begins a three-game series with Southern Illinois at 6:30 p.m.
