It’s January and the weather outside is frightful but the thought of baseball is delightful. Sorry about borrowing and paraphrasing the line of a famous holiday song but the college baseball season is just ahead and worth our attention.
The Jays officially open the season traveling to Dallas Baptist the weekend of February 15th. The Patriots will be the first of four NCAA 2012 Regional qualifiers that appear on the Jays’ schedule this year. Austin Peay Indiana Stateand Missouri St. are the others.
Unofficially, the season starts with the annual Creighton Baseball Streak Fry. More information on the date, location and speaker will be forthcoming shortly. However, it is never too early to think about a group of your friends, family and/or co-workers who might like to show support for the Jays by attending as they begin their quest for a third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance.
Wasn’t that terrific news about Head Coach Ed Servais being named to the coaching staff of USA Baseball’s 2013 Collegiate National Team. Coach Servais will serve as primarily the defensive coach along with coaching first base. Coach Servais has demonstrated his defensive coaching strengths as the Jays have either lead the nation or ranking high in many defensive statistical categories over his tenure at Creighton. Did you know that Creighton has had four Golden Glove recipients under Ed’s tutelage? That is believed to be the most by any team in D-I since the inception of the award. We will have a conversation with Coach Servais about this appointment in a future blog.
INSIDE BLUEJAY BASEBALL BLOG which will be produced by the Creighton Baseball Program. It is our hope that thru this form of communication in both writing and video presentation we can keep our fans updated on information surrounding the program.
