KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Creighton women’s golf team finished tied for seventh at the UMKC Kangaroo Invite on Tuesday. The Shoal Creek Golf Club hosted the 10-team event which included Drake, Nebraska-Omaha, and host school UMKC.
The Jays finished with a team score of 990 (333-330-327). North Dakota State won the team title with a 919 (300-306-313). Oklahoma City University finished second with a 923 (301-303-319), while Western Michigan (311-307-311) and UMKC (311-308-310) tied for third with a 929.
North Dakota State's Amy Anderson won the individual title with a 214 (69-72-73). Oklahoma City’s Jessica Schiele (71-67-78=216) placed second and Kaylee Imel (73-74-77=224) of Western Michigan placed third.
For the Jays Katie Morel was the leader in the clubhouse. The sophomore finished tied for 22nd shooting a 243 (78-83-82). Rachel Thompson was the second best Jay golfer on the tourney. The sophomore finished tied for 32nd with a 247 (88-78-81). Sophomore Mary Cathryn Rau shot a 249 (80-86-83) and finished 36th.
Senior Celeste Gassman finished just one spot behind Rau with a 252 (88-83-81). Freshman Grace Yowell's 256 (87-86-83) was enough for 43rd overall. Freshman Shauna Hill (87-87-86=260, 49th) competed in the event as an individual.
The Jays return home for the Creighton Classic on April 15-16.
