SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- Kate Elman became the 12th player in Creighton history to reach 1,000 career digs on Saturday, but it wasn't enough as the visiting Bluejays were stunned in four sets by Seton Hall on Saturday.
Scores of the match in favor of the host Pirates were 18-25, 27-25, 28-26, 25-17.
Creighton dropped to 19-7 (10-4 BIG EAST) with the setback, falling into a tie for third place in the BIG EAST with Butler. Seton Hall improved to 14-15 (5-9 BIG EAST) while earning the season split with CU.
Elman had a season-best 25 digs, and now owns 1,012 digs late in her sophomore year. She accomplished the feat in 59 matches, the third-fastest to the milestone in program history.
CU's offense was led by a career-high 16 kills from Jess Bird, who also added 15 digs. Kelli Browning also neared a double-double with 10 kills and nine blocks. CU finished with 60 kills, two aces, 80 digs and 14 blocks on .170hitting.
Stacey Manthorpe had 15 kills and 13 digs, while her sister also had a double-double with 36 assists, 11 digs and nine kills. The Pirates had 49 kills, six aces, 78 digs and 16 blocks on .159 hitting.
Creighton returns home next weekend, when it closes out regular-season play in the BIG EAST Conference with matches vs. Georgetown (Friday at 7 pm) and Villanova (Sunday at 1 pm).
