Creighton Tennis Teams Collect ITA Academic Awards
OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton men’s and women’s tennis teams collected several academic awards following the 2013-14 season from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) the organization announced Thursday.
The Bluejays placed a combined 12 honorees on the 2014 ITA Scholar-Athlete list to tie fellow BIG EAST schools DePaul and Xavier for tops in the conference. Both of the Creighton programs also took home the ITA All-Academic Team award for a seventh straight season.
It marked the 10th time in the last 11 seasons that the Bluejay women claimed the team award as well as multiple individual honors.
On the men’s side, it marked the ninth time in the last 10 seasons that the Bluejay men claimed the team award as well as multiple individual honors. Creighton joins Baylor, Gardner-Webb, Stanford, Winthrop and Yale as one of six schools honored in each of the past seven years.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2013 and spring 2014).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: (1) be a varsity letter winner, (2) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and (3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
