Women’s Soccer Blanks Incarnate Word 2-0

OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton women's soccer team blanked Incarnate Word 2-0 at Morrison Stadium Sunday, Aug, 24.
With the win Creighton improves to 2-0-0 on the year while the Cardinals dropped to 0-2-0 after the loss. The shutout is the first for the Jays’ since a 1-0 decision at Seton Hall on Oct. 6, 2013.

Sophomore Lauren Sullivan gave Creighton an early 1-0 in the fourth minute that held up as the game-winning score. Junior Kirstyn Corder fed senior Stephanie Anasi who drew the Cardinal goalkeeper out of position, then found Sullivan open on the right side an easy empty net goal.  The Bluejays took the 1-0 into halftime.
Following an Incarnate Word foul inside its box, Creighton senior Madelyn Buckner converted a penalty kick in the second half at the 55th minute to yield the final score.
Sophomore Danielle Rice played all 90 minutes in goal for the Jays to earn her first shutout of the season, making four saves on the day.  The Jays outshot the Cardinals 16-7 and led in corners 4-2.
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1, when they host Western Illinois at 1 p.m. at Morrison Stadium.
