has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after picking up two saves and a win last week, the league announced on Monday.
The Bluejays closer throughout the season was asked to make his first career start with the conference title in the balance on Friday, May 16. Sova responded by limiting Xavier to two runs on six hits in a complete-game as the Bluejays posted a 7-2 win. Entering the game Sova had career-highs of 5.2 innings and 82 pitches, he needed just 83 pitches to toss the complete game on Friday as he struck out four and did not walk a batter.
The following day, Sova showed his resolve by coming on in the 12th inning for the final two outs to record his ninth save of the season helping the Bluejays clinch their first BIG EAST Conference championship in any sport.
Sova opened the week by picking up his eighth save in Creighton's 10-8 win over Stephen F. Austin.
During the week he tossed 10.2 innings, allowing just four runs on 10 hits. He struck out five men and did not allow a walk.
Creighton (30-15-1, 14-4 BIG EAST) also remained in the weekly Collegiate Baseball
poll and are tabbed 30th for the second straight week.
The top-seeded Bluejays will next play at the BIG EAST Tournament presented by New York Life on Thursday afternoon with a 3 pm Central game against fourth-seeded Xavier.
