Menís Tennis Wins Fifth Straight Match after Sweep

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Creighton men’s tennis team swept both of its matches Tuesday, edging Quinnipiac 4-3 before blanking St. Ambrose 7-0 at Oak Street Park in Kissimmee, Fla.

Creighton (7-2) earned its fifth straight win with the pair of victories. CU swept the doubles point in both matches. Sophomore Quinn Dippel secured match one against Quinnipiac (5-4) with a three-set win at No. 4 singles. The Jays swept both doubles and singles matches against St. Ambrose (1-8) in the nightcap.

Against QU, Creighton split the six singles matches, winning at Nos. 1, 4 and 6. The Jays secured the doubles. Senior Billy Paluch and freshman Jake Norman won 8-6 at the No. 1 spot. On court three, sophomore Nick Thompson and freshman Harrison Lang also won 8-6 to claim the point. At No. 2 doubles CU junior Elliott Baker and sophomore August Nysted won 8-7 after dominating the tiebreaker 7-1.

Paluch and freshman Aaron Chalstrom posted straight set victories at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Dippel’s three-set win of 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 put Creighton up 4-2 while securing the team match point.

In match two, Thompson and Lang paired up for an 8-0 win at the No. 1 spot over St. Ambrose. Nysted and freshman Michael Koch teamed up for an 8-1 decision on court two. Sophomore Anthony Rauschenbach and freshman Jake Glazer also posted an 8-0 score at No. 3 doubles.

All six Bluejays won in straight sets. No Creighton player surrendered more than three games total in a match.

Chalstrom won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Nysted posted a double-bagel win on court two. Rauschenbach won 6-1, 3-0 at No.3 singles before his opponent retired. Thompson won 6-3, 6-0 on court four. Glazer blanked his opponent on court five while Koch claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles.

The Creighton men’s tennis team will stay in Florida this week and will face Valparaiso on Wednesday.
