CONWAY, Ark. - Sophomore Taylor Elman earned his first win as a Bluejay with six strong innings on the bump as Creighton downed Central Arkansas, 10-2, on Tuesday, March 11.
The win lifted Creighton to 7-5-1 on the season, while Central Arkansas fell to 8-6 after the loss.
The Bears struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second. Creighton got on the board in the fourth, cutting Central Arkansas' lead in half on an RBI single by sophomore Reagan Fowler.
The Bluejays began the sixth inning in dramatic fashion as senior Mike Gerber knotted the contest with one swing. Gerber's blast was his fourth of the season, straight down the left field line. One out later, Fowler followed suit lifting a double down the left field line. Pinch-hitter Landon Lucansky continued Creighton's hot hitting off the bench with and RBI single to left to make it 3-2. Before the inning was over Lucansky would trot home on and error as Creighton held a 4-2 edge.
Elman held the Bears in check through the sixth, allowing just the two runs on three hits and five walks to move to 1-1.
Creighton's bullpen took over in the seventh and the offense salted the game away with six runs in the top of the eighth.
Creighton opens it 2014 home schedule on Friday, March 14 as the Bluejays begin a three-game series with South Dakota State at 6:30 pm.
