OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton men's tennis team announced it has signed two players, Billy Paluch and Ryan Norman, for the 2009-10 season.
Paluch is a native of Rapid City, S.D., and has won three consecutive singles state championships as well as four Flight 1 doubles state titles in South Dakota. He plans to study business at Creighton. Tennisrecruiting.net has him listed as a 3 star recruit, No. 1 in SD, and No. 12 in the Plains States from Stevens High school. His father Daryl is a tennis professional in Rapid City, SD and runs the Tennis Center of the Black Hills.
Norman, a native of Wichita, Kan., is also a three-star recruit according to Tennisrecruiting.net. He is a two-time defending 3-2-1 A State singles champion in Kansas. Aside from the court, Norman is also the student-body president at Independent High School in Wichita. His father Simon is an alumni of the Missouri Valley Conference as he played Wichita State and is currently a tennis professional in Wichita.
“I am very excited about both of these players joining Sean Mathison who signed in November," head coach Tom Lilly said. "They will come to Creighton with a lot of experience, a lot of winning, and unique in that both of their fathers have worked extensively in the tennis business. Billy and Ryan are not only strong players but they are also both strong students, and I believe both of them will compete right away for us."
The team will return to action on Friday April 24, as it takes on Southern Illinois in the first round of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship at the Koch Tennis Center at 12:30 p.m.
