CARBONDALE, Ill. – The Creighton women’s golf team placed two golfers in the top 25 en route to a ninth place finish at the Saluki Invitational.
Fifteen teams and 91 golfers competed in the two-day event, which was held at the 5,999-yard, par-72 Hickory Ridge Golf Club. Drake University took home the team title after with a 36-hole total of 630. The top individual was Southern Illinois’ Kate Laegeler (74+ 78=152).
The top finisher for the Jays was junior Betsy Conry, who finished tied for eleventh place. Conry fired rounds of 79 and 81 for a total of 160. This was Conry’s highest finish of the spring season.
The next best finisher was fellow junior Maureen White, who ended with a share of 25th place. White carded two rounds of 82 for a total of 164, leading to her highest finish of the year.
Freshman Armana Christianson had scores of 84 and 83 for a 36-hole total of 167, to finish tied for 36th place while sophomores Ashley Norris and Maggy Hejlek tied for 51st place. Norris had two rounds of 86 for a 172 while Hejlek had an 88 and 84 to equal that mark.
Rounding out the scorecard for the Jays was sophomore Maggie Kersenbrock. She finished with a share of 57th place after rounds of 88 and 85, totaling 173.
The Jays return to the course on Sunday as they open play in the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic, which will be held at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course in Norman, Okla.
