OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton University guard Booker Woodfox has been named this week’s State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Woodfox was previously named MVC Player of the Week on Dec. 8th and is the fourth Bluejay honoree this season.
A senior guard, Woodfox averaged 22.0 points per game while being named MVP of the Las Vegas Classic as Creighton went 3-0 last week. The senior guard shot 61.8 percent from the field (21-34), 57.9 percent from three-point range (11-19) and was also perfect in 13 free throw attempts (100 percent).
The Lewisville, Texas native had 24 points in 26 minutes during Creighton's 19-point win over Fresno State to open the week, hitting 8-of-13 shots from the floor, 4-of-6 from three-point range and four shots at the line.
He then scored 26 points in the championship game victory over Big East foe DePaul. Woodfox was 7-of-12 from the field against the Blue Demons, hitting 5-of-9 from three-point range and was 7-of-7 from the line. He added four rebounds and two assists in the victory.
He closed his week with 16 points in CU's Valley-opening victory over Wichita State. He hit 6-of-9 shots from the floor, 2-of-4 from three-point territory, and also hit both free throw attempts.
Woodfox has now led Creighton in scoring in seven straight games and owns 21 consecutive makes at the free throw line. He has made multiple three-pointers while shooting 50 percent or better from downtown in eight straight games. He has also made a three-pointer in 16 straight halves. Over the past eight games (all CU victories), Woodfox is averaging 20.4 points per game and is 33-of-54 from three-point range (61.1 percent).
