OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton men’s tennis player Billy Paluch earned a unanimous selection as a member of the 2014 men’s tennis All-BIG EAST team, the league office announced Thursday.
Paluch was one of nine All-BIG EAST selections to claim a unanimous selection. It marks the second all-conference honor for the graduate student after his recognition on the All-Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Select team in 2011-12.
A two-time BIG EAST Player of the week this season, Paluch finished the dual match season with an 11-5 singles record and 11-6 mark in doubles with freshman partner Jake Norman.
The Rapid City, S.D., native played at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles all year. Paluch played very few matches at other positions during his career at Creighton. He leaves with the best Power Rating based on position played and wins at those positions.
He became the first Bluejay to be ranked nationally (No. 91) prior to the start of his senior year in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) men's national singles rankings on Jan. 4, 2013.
Paluch finished his career with the most combined career wins (149) at Creighton. He also claims the most doubles wins (76) in program history.
Off the court Paluch was just as successful, earning the Carl M. Reinert, S.J., Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2014. Previously Paluch claimed MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team honors twice and ITA Scholar-Athlete First Team recognition on two occasions.
