MANHATTAN, Kan. -- The Creighton women’s golf team finished 15th at the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational on Tuesday.
The par-72 6,181 yard Colbert Hills Golf Course hosted the 15-team event. The field included host school Kansas State, Kansas, Tulsa, Arkansas State, Oral Roberts, Nebraska, Colorado State, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, Wichita State, New Mexico State, UMKC, North Texas and Redlands CC.
Creighton finished with a team score of 1058 (372 + 335+ 351).
Kansas won team honors finishing at 910 (303 + 299 + 308). In-state rival Kansas State finished second (313 + 302 + 311 = 926) and Tulsa (319 + 306 + 316 = 941) came in third.
Kansas’ Meghan Potee claimed the top spot overall with a 224 (75+75+74). Potee’s teammate Thanruttra Boonraksasat finished second with a 227 (78+74+75) and three golfers tied for third place.
For the Jays, Katie Morel finished tied for 63rd with a 257 (87+84+86). Grace Yowell (92+80+86) finished one shot behind Morel and tied for 66th. Rachel Thompson placed 75th with a 271 (101+84+86).
Finishing one stroke and one spot behind Thompson was Annie Pearson (92+87+93 = 272) and Kelsey Petersen placed 80th with an 293 (104+90+99).
The Jays compete again on Oct. 5-7 at the LPGA Xavier International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
