OMAHA, Neb. - Freshmen Emily Roll and Danielle Rice Earned BIG EAST Defensive and Goalkeeper of the Week honors, while senior Lauren Cingoranelli nabbed a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Monday, Sept. 16.
The honors were based on the Bluejays' play from Sept. 9-16, a week that the Jays claimed wins over UMKC (1-0 on Sept. 10), South Dakota (4-0 on Sept. 13) and Montana (2-1 in ot on Sept. 15).
Roll helped the Bluejays allow only one goal in the 3-0 week, the defender anchored a defense that surrendered an average of 9.3 shots and 3.0 corners per contest. In a 4-0 win against South Dakota (9/13), Roll also registered an assist. In the other two games, Creighton won 1-0 at UMKC (9/10) and 2-1 in overtime against Montana (9/15).
Rice earned her first and second solo shutouts, beating UMKC 1-0 on the road and South Dakota 4-0 at home last week. She also earned the win for the Jays' 2-1 win over Montana in overtime. For the three games, she made 13 saves. During the Bluejays’ current six-game winning streak, Rice has a 0.53 GAA.
Cingoranelli had two goals and an assist in the 4-0 win against South Dakota. It was the first time a Creighton player had five points in a game since Brittney Neumann scored eight points (three goals and two assist) against South Dakota on Aug. 28, 2009.
Roll, Rice & Cingoranelli return to the pitch on Friday, Sept. 20 as the Jays look to extend their six-match winning streak against the Omaha Mavericks at 7 p.m. in Morrison Stadium.
