MACOMB, Ill. -- The Creighton men’s golf team finished tied for 10th with Nebraska-Omaha at the 41st annual Beu/Mussatto Invitational on Saturday. The 14-team field included South Dakota, South Dakota State and host school Western Illinois.
The Jays finished the par-72 6,862 yard Harry Mussatto Golf Course with a team score of 918 (299-300-319).
South Dakota State finished first after firing a team score of 889 (300-285-304). IUPUI finished second with an 891 (286-301-304) and Indian Hills CC finished third with an 893 (299-288-306).
IUPUI's Santiago Ruiz won individual honors with a 217 (73-74-70) and SDSU's Hudson Carpenter (74-70-74=218) finished second.
Individually for the Jays Johnny Spellerberg was the top golfer. The senior finished tied for 20th with a 227 (74-73-80). Fellow senior Ben Lowman finished tied for 37th with a 231 (74-77-80). Senior John Rasmussen (76-77-79=232) and freshman Steffen Lake (75-74-83=232) finished tied for 43rd. Freshman Jack Stimple also had a strong showing in the invite, finishing tied for 58th shooting a 235 (79-76-80).
The Jays continue their spring campaign April 8-9 at the C.O.G. Mizzou Intercollegiate in Columbia, Mo.
