Jose Ribas Nabs Fourth MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Creighton's Jose Ribas was named the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week for his performance between November 12-18.
A sophomore from Guayaquil, Ecuador, Ribas collected two assists in 90 minutes of action during the Bluejays’ 4-2 win over 21st-ranked Washington in an NCAA Second Round match in Omaha, Nebraska, on Sunday, November 18.
A four-time MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week selection in 2012, Ribas, has a 3.60 cumulative grade-point average in business, recorded his seventh assist of the season from the corner on Creighton’s go-ahead goal against the Huskies in the 55th minute. Ribas added his eighth assist of the season on the Jays’ game-winning goal exactly 11 minutes later on another corner.
Ribas also won the award on Sept. 19, Oct. 24 and Nov. 7.
Now in its 14th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.
To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
