Creighton Rises to No. 16 in NSCAA Poll
OMAHA, Neb. (Oct. 30) - The Creighton men's soccer team moved up five spots to No. 16 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll on Tuesday, Oct. 30, after a 1-0 home win against Missouri State last week.
This marks the 34th consecutive week that Creighton is ranked in the NSCAA Top 25. The 2010 preseason poll marked the last time the Jays were not ranked.
CU stands at No. 17 in the latest Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) released by the NCAA on Tuesday, Oct. 30.
The Jays ascended one spot in the NSCAA Midwest Regional Rankings to the No. 2 slot this week. Creighton climbed four positions to No. 13 in the Soccer America Men's Top 25. The Bluejays held steady at No. 14 in the TopDrawer Soccer rankings. CU moved up three spots to No. 15 in the latest College Soccer News poll. The Soccer Times poll was unavailable at press time; last week Creighton stood at No. 17 in those rankings.
Entering the final week of the regular season, Creighton ranks No. 6 nationally with a 0.59 shutout percentage (10-of-17 matches). The Jays also rank No. 10 in the country for team goals against average (0.68) as well as save percentage (0.85).
With zero goals allowed in conference play this year Creighton's shutout defense could set an MVC team record for the fewest goals allowed in a Valley season. Three teams including CU's 1995 squad share the current all-time low record of two goals allowed in a conference season.
CU has already wrapped up a first-round bye for the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) tournament and could clinch the regular-season title outright at Evansville this Saturday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. The Purple Aces are also in contention for a first-round bye in the MVC Tournament.
A win or a tie over UE gives Creighton the outright MVC regular-season crown and the No. 1 seed overall at next week's conference tournament hosted by Bradley in Peoria, Ill.
