TULSA, Okla. - The Creighton men's tennis team strung together its third straight win on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Oral Roberts 7-0 to improve to 8-3 on the season. Creighton swept through doubles play and dropped just one set in singles play to cruise to the third straight win.
The Bluejays won both of the doubles matches played on the day, winning at No. 3 doubles by default. Billy Paluch and J.T. Christian defeated Alvaro Gutierrez and Nathaniel Avery 8-3 to start play at the No. 1 spot, followed by Ryan Norman and Sean Mathison downing Parker Allen and Pedro Moreno 8-6 at the No. 2 doubles. Kyle Obermeier and Elliott Baker won by default at the No. 3 spot, giving the Jays the sweep.
Creighton flew through singles play, with just one match going to three sets. Paluch split the first two sets at the No. 1 spot with Alvaro Gutierrez, but won the first-to-10 tiebreak to get the point (2-6, 6-3, 11-9). Christian defeated Parker Allen 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 2 singles before Obermeier, who is on the mend from an ankle injury, downed Pedro Moreno 6-2, 6-1.
Norman defeated Nathaniel Avery in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 4 singles before Gabe Nagy finished play by defeating Matthew Prevost 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Mathison won the No. 6 single by default.
Creighton will close out play in Oklahoma tomorrow, traveling to Stillwater, Okla., for a match at Oklahoma State.
