Men's Tennis Completes Tennis Sweep of Grand Valley State
ORLANDO, Fla. - The Creighton men's tennis team won again on Monday morning, and now sit at 2-0 on the week in Orlando. The Bluejays defeated Grand Valley State 6-1, completing the sweep of GVSU as the women's team defeated the team earlier in the morning.
The Jays improve to 5-2 on the season and now have tomorrow off before taking on ST. Joseph on Wednesday and round out the week with Niagara.
Creighton again picked up the doubles point, as the team has done nearly every match this season. Kyle Obermeier and Elliott Baker started the team off on the right food, shutting out Marc Roesslein and Bryan Hodges 8-0 in the No. 2 doubles. Sean Mathison and Ryan Norman then defeated John McDonald and Josh Kazdan 8-3 at the No. 3 doubles to win the automatic point for the Jays. J.T. Christian and Billy Paluch then defeated Andrew Darrell and Benny Rochas 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles.
The Jays have won the automatic doubles point six of the seven matches this season, and have won at least one of the three in every match. Five different times the Jays have swept doubles play.
Paluch won his third straight match at No. 1 singles, defeating Andrew Darrell 6-0, 6-2 before Obermeier won his second straight with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Benny Rochas. Ryan Norman defeated Bryan Hodges 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 4 singles, Sean Mathison defeated Josh Kazdan 2-6, 6-1, 10-6 at the No. 5 singles and Gabe Nagy defeated John McDonald 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot.
The lone point for GVSU came at the No. 3 singles, where Marc Roesslein defeated Christian. After both players took a set (6-4 for Roesslein and 6-3 for Christian), Roesslein broke serve to get the 11-9 win in the tiebreak.
