ORLANDO, Fla. - The Creighton men's tennis team opened up the 2012 Spring Break trip with a 6-1 win over Robert Morris on Sunday. Creighton won all three of the doubles matches, earning the automatic point, and then won five of the six singles matches.
Leading off doubles play was Billy Paluch and JT Christian, who defeated Angus Thompson and Tarun Kishan 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles. Ryan Norman and Sean Mathison then won their fifth straight doubles match, defeating Jose Limon and Ricardo Horlle 8-3 at the No. 2 doubles. Kyle Obermeier and Gabe Nagy then finished singles play with an 8-6 win over Andre Coiro and Aaron Haas at the No. 3 doubles.
Creighton then won five of six in singles play. Paluch defeated Andre Coiro in straight sets at the No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. Obermeier dropped his first set in No. 2 singles, but came back to win the second and the tiebreak, winning 5-7, 6-2, 10-6.
Christian also needed a tiebreak set to defeat Jose Limon at the No. 3 singles, winning 6-4, 4-6, 10-5, before Norman downed Ricardo Horlle 6-1, 7-5 at the No. 4 singles. Mathison then finished the singles wins, with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Igor Neves at No. 6 singles. RMU's lone point came at the No. 5 singles, where Tarun Kishan defeated Elliott Baker 6-4, 3-6, 10-5.
The Bluejays play their second match of the Spring Break trip tomorrow morning, taking on Grand Valley State at 8:30 am.
