LINCOLN, Neb. - After starting the 2012 spring season 3-0, the first time to accomplish that feat since 2007, the Creighton men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker at No. 38 Nebraska on Sunday morning, falling 6-1.

The two teams battled back and forth in doubles play, each picking up a match before the Huskers earned the point by securing the final doubles win.  Nebraska won the No. 1 doubles 8-6, when Andre Stenger and Robert Schulze defeated Billy Paluch and J.T. Christian.  The Bluejays evened things up by winning the No. 3 doubles, as Ryan Norman and Sean Mathison downed Tom Blackwell and Drew Freeman 8-5.  In the deciding match, Kyle Obermeier and Elliott Baker fell 8-6 to Eric Stock and Stefan Gollner in the No. 2 doubles.

Nebraska went up 3-0, when Andre Stenger defeated Obermeier 6-3, 6-2 in No. 3 singles and Chris Aumueller defeated Paluch 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles.  It marked the first time Obermeier has lost in five matches.

Stefan Gollner downed Christian 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 singles to secure the win for the Huskers, putting them up 4-0.  Christian dropped his first singles match in the last four contests.  Ryan Norman then fell just short at the No. 4 singles, falling 6-4, 7-5 to Robert Schulze. Gabe Nagy also put together a strong effort, but fell 7-6, 6-2 at the No. 5 singles to Tom Blackwell.

Baker picked up Creighton's lone point of the day, closing out play by defeating Drew Freeman 3-6, 7-5, and winning 10-7 in a 10-pt tiebreaker set.

The Bluejays will be in action again on Monday, Feb. 20, when they host Idaho.  Both the Creighton men's and women's tennis teams will then travel to Orlando, Fla., for their annual spring break trip.  The two teams combined to finish 6-1 in Orlando a season ago.
