Men's Tennis Signs Two Midwestern Players for 2012-13
OMAHA, Neb. - Two midwestern kids will join the Creighton Bluejays men's tennis team next fall, as head coach Tom Lilly has announced the signing of Quinn Dippel and Sam Wells. Both players are ranked in the top 10 according to Tennisrecruiting.net and will bring all around student-athlete success to Creighton.
Dippel comes to Creighton ranked the #3 player in Kansas, #15 in the seven Plains states and a three star recruit. The Lindsborg, Kansas, native led his Smoky Valley High School team to the state tournament in 2010 and 2011, finishing as the Kansas 4A state singles champion both season. He was named the 2010 Kansas Male Junior Tennis Player of the Year.
Dippel also dapples in football and basketball, as he is a wide receiver on the varsity football team and is the starting guard on the Smoky Valley basketball team. He led his team in three-pointer and free-throw percentage a season ago.
"Quinn is a tremendous athlete and has done many good things in several different sports," commented Lilly on Thursday. "I have a strong feeling that he will improve immensely once he puts his focus strictly on tennis."
Wells comes to Creighton ranked the #6 player in Kansas. He attended Rockhurst High School, guiding them to the 6A Missouri State Championship in 2009 and runner-up in 2010. He finished as a doubles finalist in two Missouri Valley Supers. Wells has been selected to compete on Prince Challenge Cup teams nationally the past three years.
Lilly on Wells: "I have been told that Sam is a very hard worker and will do whatever it takes to succeed. He continues to improve everyday and i know that his best tennis will come while at Creighton."
