OMAHA, Neb. -- Television coverage for Creighton University men's basketball in 2011-12 was released today, with at least 18 games scheduled to be broadcast on a variety of networks this winter.
Omaha’s CBS affiliate, KMTV, will cover eight games this season, including four home games and four road games. The broadcast schedule begins on Dec. 4 with Creighton’s annual showdown with in-state rival Nebraska, and also includes home games vs. Northwestern (Dec. 22), Drake (Jan. 3) and Bradley (Jan. 28). Road games on the broadcast schedule include competitions at Saint Joseph’s (Dec. 10), Bradley (Jan. 7), Drake (Jan. 25) and Southern Illinois (Feb. 14). Travis Justice and Nick Bahe will return on the call for those games.
The games that have been added by ESPN for national broadcast include a Dec. 31 game at Wichita State that will air on ESPNU, a Jan. 21 home game vs. Indiana State on ESPN2 and a Feb. 11 game on ESPN2 vs. Wichita State. Games on Jan. 10 vs. Northern Iowa and Jan. 13 at Illinois State will air exclusively on-line at ESPN3.com.
Games to air on Fox Sports Net include Creighton’s Dec. 28 MVC opener vs. Missouri State, its Feb. 4 game at Northern Iowa, and its Feb. 21 home game with Evansville. Fox Sports Net will also televise the first round, quarterfinals and semifinals of the State Farm MVC Tournament before giving way to CBS for the tournament final.
Additionally, Creighton's BracketBuster home game (Feb. 17-19) could be selected for coverage by ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPN3.com, and its Feb. 25 match-up at Indiana State could be one of two games selected for telecast (one on ESPN or ESPN2/ESPN3.com, one on FSN) as part of the Valley's Wildcard Weekend to end the regular season.
Creighton officials had already been told that its Nov. 20 game vs. Iowa will air nationally on the Big Ten Network, while its Nov. 30 game at San Diego State will air on The Mtn. Creighton games that will air on NET will be announced at a later date after those contracts are finalized.
Creighton, which had 28 games air on television last season, has had 132 games appear on television in the last five years. That includes 45 games on KMTV/CBS, 28 contests on ESPN-affiliated networks and 29 additional FSN broadcasts in that time.
All Creighton games, including the Nov. 6 exhibition vs. Rockhurst, will once again be broadcast via the radio airwaves on AM 590 ESPN Radio (KXSP, 590 AM), with T. Scott Marr and Nick Bahe on the call for most contests.
