OMAHA, Neb. -- Three games against BCS conference foes and a home game against BYU highlight Creighton’s 2010-11 men’s basketball non-conference schedule, coach Greg McDermott announced today. Creighton will also play each of the other nine schools of the Missouri Valley Conference twice before the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament takes place in St. Louis, Mo., in early March.

Twelve of Creighton’s scheduled games will take place against teams that reached the postseason in 2010, including three versus NCAA qualifiers and five against squads that made the National Invitation Tournament.

“There is no doubt we will be facing some outstanding programs in both the non-conference and conference portions of our schedule,” McDermott said. “Playing quality teams is great for our fans and our program, and we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Fans can see the 2010-11 Bluejays in game action for the first time on Nov. 4, when Creighton hosts Northern State in its only exhibition.

McDermott will make his regular-season debut on the Creighton sideline in a Nov. 12 game against Alabama State. Two days later Creighton hosts Northern Arizona. Both games are part of the Global Sports Hy-Vee Challenge.

Creighton continues its three-game homestand to start the season with a Nov. 17 game against Louisiana, its first meeting with the Ragin’ Cajuns since 1977.

The Bluejays will hit the road for the first time on Nov. 21 when it plays at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa, in a game against Iowa State. That game, along with Creighton’s Nov. 26 home game vs. Kennesaw State at Qwest Center Omaha, is also part of the Global Sports Hy-Vee Challenge.

Creighton will play a road game at Northwestern for the first time since 1964 when it ventures to Evanston, Ill., on Nov. 28 to start a two-year home-and-home series with the Wildcats.

BYU then comes to Omaha on Dec 1. The Cougars, who were ranked 17th in the final Associated Press poll last season, will play in Omaha as part of the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Challenge Series.

Creighton will return to the road on Dec. 5 when it plays at in-state rival Nebraska. The Jays will then take six days off from competition before hosting Saint Joseph’s on Dec. 11th.

After a week off for finals, Creighton will play three times in five days to close its pre-conference schedule. The Bluejays will host Idaho State on Dec. 18, Western Illinois on Dec. 20 and Samford on Dec. 22.

In addition, Creighton will participate in BracketBusters, on either Feb. 18, 19 or 20. The Bluejays have been designated as a road team for this season’s event.

Creighton will open MVC play on the road for the first time since 2004-05 when it plays at Illinois State on Dec. 29. Creighton will play its first MVC home game on Jan. 1 with a contest versus Drake.

Creighton will play two-time defending MVC regular-season and tournament champion Northern Iowa on Jan. 26 in Cedar Falls and on Feb. 26 in Omaha in the regular-season finale.

The State Farm MVC Tournament returns to St. Louis for the 21st straight season on March 3-6, with the winner claiming an automatic NCAA Tournament bid.  Creighton has won six league tournament titles since 1999, fourth-most in the nation in that span.

Remaining start times, as well as national, regional and local television packages will be set in the coming weeks and be listed on the men’s basketball schedule page at as those items become finalized.

Creighton’s finished last season with an 18-16 record and a spot in the semifinals of the Postseason Tournament. The Jays will return 10 lettermen and four starters in search of a 14th straight postseason.
