PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- The Creighton men's golf team finished second in a triangular with Drake and North Dakota State on Saturday. The three rounds were played over two days on three different courses. The first 36 holes were played Friday with the first 18 at Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside, Calif., and the second 18 were played at Black Horse Golf Course, also in Seaside. Saturday's final round was contested at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, Calif.

The Jays shot team totals of 342, 324 and 311 for a three-round total of 977. Drake shot a 954 and North Dakota State recorded a 985.

Creighton was led overall by senior Michael McDonnell, who carded rounds of 81, 78 and 77 for a 236 total, which tied him for the second-best score in the field, but junior Patrick Shanahan shot the Jays' best round of the weekend with a third-round 69 at Poppy Hills.

Though the entire nine-man Creighton golf team competed in the event, only five are allowed to count toward the team score, so four Jays competed as individuals. Besides McDonnell, the other four whose scores counted toward the team total were Shanahan (90-82-69-241); freshman John Rasmussen (83-84-81-248); sophomore Austin Miller (88-80-84-252); and sophomore Ryan Herter (84-90-81-255).

Junior Jimmy Zuegner was the best Creighton finisher among the group that competed as individuals. His rounds of 84, 78 and 85 added up to 247. Sophomore Brandon Falley (92-88-85-265), sophomore Jack Dressen (93-88-85-266) and freshman Corbin Gardner (98-98-91-287) also played the three rounds as individuals.

The Jays are off until April 5 and 6 when they will compete in the Branson Creek Invitational in Hollister, Mo.
