Homestand Continues Against Western Illinois, New Mexico State and Drake:
Off to a fast 2-0-0 start, the Bluejays’ women’s soccer team has a chance to continue its success with three straight home games against Western Illinois (Sept. 1), New Mexico State (Sept. 5) and Drake (Sept. 7).
Series with Western Illinois:
Creighton and Western Illinois have met 11 times previous. The Bluejays took 10 of those meetings, including all six in Omaha. Western Illinois managed a tie in 2005 as Creighton leads the series, 10-0-1.
The last meeting between the two squads came on Oct. 14, 2008 in Macomb, Illinois. Creighton won that contest, 2-0. The last matchup in Omaha was a 1-0 Bluejay win on Oct. 21, 2007.
The 3rd Annual Creighton Socctoberfest, a celebration of the Bluejay men’s and women’s soccer programs, will be held on the north lawn inside Morrison Stadium on Friday, Sept. 5 starting at 3:30 p.m., in conjunction with the women’s soccer match against New Mexico State (5:00 p.m., kick-off) and the men’s soccer match against Western Illinois (7:30 p.m., kick-off).
The event is open to all Creighton fans and cost is $20 per person for advance reservations and $25 per person at the door. The event includes a live band, a commemorative 32-ounce Creighton Socctoberfest glass stein, a 32-ounce draw and a meal ticket (bratwurst, sauerkraut, chips and a German salad). Additional 32-ounce draw refills will also be available for purchase at $7 each. Proof of age will be required at the event’s entrance and wristbands will be affixed to those of legal drinking age.

Corder Sparkles in Opening Week, Earns Spot on BIG EAST Honor Roll:
Junior Kirstyn Corder came out to play in 2014, scoring two goals in the season opener to lead Creighton past South Dakota State on Aug. 22. Corder recorded the Bluejays first and third goal of the second half, including the game-winning goal. Her efforts earned the forward a spot on the initial BIG EAST Honor Roll on Aug. 25
Rice on a Roll:
Sophomore Danielle Rice extended her consecutive minutes streak to 1,518:07 minutes in the net for the Bluejays. Rice played the last 1,338:07 of 2013.
The last Bluejay with a long streak was Katie Jo Swanson, who played every minute in 2012 (1788:42).
Flying High Out of the Cage:
Off to a two match winning streak to open the 2014 season, Creighton has burst out to the team’s best start since going 2-0 in 2011. The last time the Bluejays opened a season 3-0 was in 2008, when Creighton won its first four matches. The best start in school history came in 1993 as the Bluejays began the year, 5-0-0.
Crossing the Summit:
Having already beaten South Dakota State in the season opener, Creighton faces two more Summit League opponents in 2014, battling Western Illinois and Omaha. The Leathernecks were picked to finish fifth in the Summit’s preseason poll, while Omaha was eighth and South Dakota State was second.
