The Bluejays put themselves in prime position to become Creighton’s first team to claim a BIG EAST Championship, taking two of three from St. John’s to move into sole possession of first place with just one series remaining.
Creighton earned a 10-8 win over Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday, May 13, however the Bluejays’ game with Nebraska was cancelled due to travel issues for the Huskers.
Creighton closes the regular season at Xavier in Cincinnati, Ohio from Thursday-Saturday.
Creighton has clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament, beginning on May 22. Three of the four teams in the tournament have been set as Seton Hall and St. John’s have also secured a spot.

The Bluejays and Musketeers have played two times previously, with Creighton claiming both contests. The last meeting came in 1995, a 9-5 win for the Bluejays on March 7 in 1995. Both meetings were on neutral sites.

Xavier got off to a 7-2 start in BIG EAST play, but have been swept in its last two series.
The Musketeers still have the inside track to claiming the fourth spot in the BIG EAST Tournament with a two-game lead on Butler.
Xavier is 8-4 at home this season, including 3-3 in BIG EAST games.
On the season the Musketeers have a team ERA on 4.34, led by a 2.15 ERA from Friday’s projected stater (Vinny Nittoli).
At the dish Xavier is hitting .281 as a squad, led by a .319 average from Daniel Rizzie.
Defensively Xavier has committed 69 errors in 49 games for .964 fielding percentage.
Scouting the Bluejays (28-15-1, 12-3 BIG EAST)
The Bluejays have won eight of their last ten to put themselves into position to claim the first BIG EAST Championship in school history this weekend. Creighton currently leads the BIG EAST Conference by one game, but the Bluejays hold the tiebreaker on both St. John’s and Seton Hall.
Sophomore RHP Taylor Elman (6.30 ERA, 2-4, 15 app, 14 starts, 60.0 IP, 76 H, 44 R, 42 ER, 20 BB, 38 K) will get the start in the opening game, while the starter in the final two contests is to be announced.
Creighton enters the weekend with a 3.99 team ERA, while the Bluejays are hitting .269 as a unit. Reagan Fowler leads the Bluejays with a .356 average, while Jake Peter has come on strong over the last two weeks to raise his average to .316.
Defensively the Bluejays are the second best team in the NCAA, committing just 30 errors in 44 games for a .983 fielding percentage.
