Last Week
Despite having two games wiped away by poor weather on Wednesday and Friday, Creighton closed the week 3-1.  The Bluejays swept the final three games from North Dakota, taking two on Saturday and one on Sunday.

The Bluejays host Nebraska on Tuesday, April 8 before opening their first BIG EAST series agaisnt Georgetown on April 11.
Looking Ahead
Creighton currently does not have a midweek game next week and heads to Villanova for its first BIG EAST road series from April 18-20.

Nebraska vs. Creighton Series
Located less than an hour apart, Creighton and Nebraska are fmiliar foes on the baseball field.
Nebraska holds an 83-42-2 series edge on the Jays. The Huskers took the three game series in 2011 & 2012, while Creighton’s last series win came in 2010.

When playing in Omaha, the Huskers hold a 47-15-1 edge over the Bluejays. Coach Servais is 12-20 versus Nebraska in his career.

Nebraska took the first meeting between the two squads on March 18, 5-4 in ten innings.

Scouting the Huskers (19-13, 4-2 Big Ten)
Since the first meeting with Creighton in mid-March the Huskers have gone 7-6, dropping series at Iowa (2-1), vs. UNLV (2-1), but sweeping Ohio State last weekend.

Nebraska is planning to start right hander Jake Hohensee for the third time this
season on Tuesday night.  He will be making his 11th appearance of 2014. Hohensee threw 2.1 innings of relief against the Bluejays in the first meeting, allowing one run on two his and two walks.
Offensively the Huskers driving forces are at the top of the order.  Leadoff man
Austin Darby boasts a .322 average at the plate, while cleanup hitter Ryan Boldt is just a step back at .321.  Both have a team best 20 runs scored on the season.

Warren’s Claims Seventh Straight Win
Sophomore Matt Warren moved his 2014 record to 6-0 with 7.2 innings of two-run ball on Saturday, April 5 agaisnt North Dakota.

Including his last decision in 2013, Warren has won seven straight, matching the consecutive wins posted by Mark Winkelman to close his Creighton career.  The last Bluejay to open a season with a 7-0 mark was Ty Blach in 2011.

BIG EAST Tournament Format is Set
The format for the 2014 BIG EAST Tournament has been set.  The top four teams will qualify for the conference tournament.  The first two games will decide the participants in a winner-take-all championship game.

Day 1:
Game 1: No. 4 vs. No. 1
Game 2: No. 3 vs. No. 2

Day 2:
Game 3: Game 1 winner vs. Game 2 winner
Game 4: Game 1 loser vs. Game 2 loser (losing team is eliminated)
Game 5: Game 3 loser vs. Game 4 winner (losing team is eliminated)

Day 3: Championship Game
Game 6: Game 3 winner vs. Game 5 winner

Mikulka Delivers in the Clutch
Sophomore Brandon Mikulka waited for the opportune moment to deliver his first career RBI.  Down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth to North Dakota, Mikulka came of the plate with two down as a pinch hitter with a runner at second base.  Mikulka launched an RBI triple into right field and eventually scored the game-winning run as well.

Hitter’s Paradise
TD Ameritrade Park Omaha is rarely confused for a hitter’s park, though that might be changing.  In Creighton’s 8-6 win over North Dakota on Sunday, April 6 the two teams combined for 24 hits.  Amongst the barrage were two home runs, two doubles and a triple.  Creighton’s Mike Gerber belted his sixth round-tripper of 2014, including his second at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
