OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton softball team suffered a 6-1 setback to BIG EAST foe Georgetown in the series finale of a three-game series held at the CU Sports Complex Sunday afternoon.
Creighton (19-13, 2-3 BIG EAST) fell behind early to Georgetown (15-12, 6-0 BIG EAST) in the game and could not recover. As a result the visiting Hoyas earned a three-game road sweep in conference play to take over first place in the conference.
CU senior Becca Changstrom earned the start in the contest.
Georgetown opened the scoring in the with a one-out RBI double off of the left field wall to take an early 1-0 advantage.
The visitors doubled their lead in the top of the second with a solo home run to go up 2-0.
After a scoreless third, Georgetown extended its lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth frame with a two-run home run. CU senior Brittany Telecky then came on for Changstrom in relief to close out the game.
Lingl’s solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning cut the Hoyas lead to 4-1 but the Jays could not get any closer.
The Hoyas smacked another two-run home run in the top of the seventh to yield the final 6-1 score.
Changstrom dropped to 11-7 on the year with the loss.
