Women's Golf Finishes Eighth in Utah
ST. GEORGE, Utah -- The Creighton women’s golf team finished eighth at the SUU Invite on Tuesday. The par-72 6,013 yard Sunbrook Golf Course hosted the 12 -team event. The field included host school Southern Utah, South Dakota State, North Dakota State, and Idaho State.
Creighton finished with a team score of 644 (323+321).
Weber State (314+301=615) and Oral Roberts (305+310=615) were co-champions of the Invite. Southern Utah (308+309=617) placed third.
Marissa Borja of Eastern Washington finished first with a 145 (72+73). Oral Roberts’ Alheli Moreno (74+75=149) finished second and South Dakota State’s Islamiah Faud (79+71=150) and Grand Canyon’s Emily Kaye (71+79=150) tied for third.
The Jays top four golfers all saw at least 10-shot improvements from their outputs at the Bison Invite a few days ago. Katie Morel was once again the top golfer for the Jays. The junior finished tied 14th shooting a 156 (76+80).
Junior Rachel Thompson made one of the biggest improvements from Bison finishing tied for 20th with a 159 (83+76), improving her score by 20 strokes. Sophomore Grace Yowell (82+81=163) finished tied for 33rd and freshman Annie Pearson tied for 54th (82+89=171).
Freshman Kelsey Petersen (T-58th, 88+84=172) also had a strong showing for the Jays.
Mary Cathryn Rau finished tied for 43th while competing as an individual. The junior’s score of 165 (80+85) was a 23-shot improvement from the Bison Invite.
The Jays return to the Midwest for the UMKC Kangaroo Spring Invitational April 7-8 in Kansas City, Mo.
