Morel's Ninth-Place Finish Leads Women's Golf in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- The Creighton women’s golf team finished 7th at the Bison Challenge on Tuesday. The par-72 6,004 yard Paiute Golf Club hosted the eight-team event. The field included host school Bucknell, Idaho State, and Eastern Washington.
Creighton finished with a team score of 706 (332+374).
Lynn (300+331) finished first with a 631. Long Island (322+347) finished second with a 669 and Tennessee Tech (319+354=673) came in third.
Division II’s top-ranked Lynn University (Fla.) dominated the individual ranks, with four golfers in the top six slots including the top three, Jessica Bradley (73+80=153), Samantha Smolen (75+80=155) and Ellen Chambers (76+82=158).
For the Jays, Katie Morel tied for ninth, shooting a 166 (79+90). Rachel Thompson finished 27th with a 179 (86+93). Grace Yowell (83+97=180) finished one spot and one shot behind Thompson. Annie Pearson tied for 30th (87+94=181) and Mary Cathryn Rau finished 44th (90+98=188)
Kelsey Petersen tied for 18th while competing as an individual with a 171 (79+92).
Strong winds made play treacherous and scores inflated on Tuesday.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Jays as they compete on March 13-14 at the SUU Invitational in St. George, Utah.
