Men's Basketball Ranked 20th Nationally in Both Polls

OMAHA, Neb. -- On the heels of double-digit wins over No. 4 Villanova and Georgetown, the Creighton men's basketball team made a big surge in the national rankings unveiled on Monday.

Creighton (17-3, 7-1 BIG EAST) is ranked 20th in this week's Associated Press poll, the fourth time this season the Bluejays have been in the top-25. Last week the team was tops among those 'also receiving votes" and were on the cusp of the top 25. The ranking matches this year's best ranking, also done November 25th and January 13th.

Including today's poll result, Creighton has been ranked 32 times in 70 weeks of AP polls under Greg McDermott, and ranked between 26th-to-28th in nine other AP polls. The 32 weeks in the top-25 under McDermott is more than any coach in Bluejay history.

In the USA Today coaches poll, Creighton jumped four spots from its No. 24 placement a week ago and currently ranks 20. This is the sixth week this season that the Jays have been in the top 25, and fourth straight week.

Creighton also moved up five spots to the No. 10 spot in the NCAA's official RPI, a five-spot increase over last week. It's Creighton's best mark in the four-year tenure of McDermott, just ahead of the No. 13 spot done on January 7, 2013.

In the latest NCAA statistics released on Monday, Creighton continues to rank highly across the board. The Bluejays lead the nation in three-point percentage, three-pointers per game, three-pointers made, assists per game and assist/turnover ratio. The Jays are also second in assists, eighth in scoring margin and 11th in field goal percentage.

Individually, Ethan Wragge leads the nation in three-point field goal percentage at 50 percent. Doug McDermott ranks second in points per game, third in field goals made, fourth in total points and 13th in free-throw percentage.. Jahenns Manigat is third in assist/turnover ratio, as well.

The Bluejays return to the court on Tuesday at 8:02 pm when it hosts St. John's.
