OMAHA, Neb. - Led by 38 points in the paint, and four Bluejays in double-digits, the Creighton women's basketball team downed South Dakota, 63-48, on Tuesday, Nov. 26.
Creighton moved to 4-2 with the win, while South Dakota fell to 2-5.
The Bluejays packed the ball inside early in the game as post players collected Creighton's first four buckets, two from Kamphaus and one from Rollerson as well as senior Sarah Nelson. Janning tossed in two free throws and a three pointer as Creighton led 14-4 at the 13:32 mark.
South Dakota worked its way back to within two possessions at 18-14 (7:34), but the Bluejays closed the half with an 18-5 outburst to take a 36-19 lead into the locker room. Five Jays contributed to the run, led by five points from Janning.
Creighton continued its roll in the opening moments of the second period, scoring the first seven points to push the margin to its height of 24 points (43-19). South Dakota chipped away at the Bluejay advantage throughout the second half, but got no closer than 11 (54-43 with 6:16 remaining).
In addition to the points scored, Kamphaus and Rollerson each led the Bluejays with eight rebounds.
The Coyotes were led by 17 points from Nicole Seekamp.
The Bluejays return to action on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 12 p.m. as Creighton faces # 18 Oklahoma at 12 p.m. The game will be carried on television on Fox Sports 2 (Cox - 218; Directv - 618; Dish Network 398).
