Corder Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
OMAHA, Neb. - Sophomore Kirstyn Corder's two game-winning goals last week earned her the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honor on Monday, Oct. 7. Freshman goalkeeper Danielle Rice also earned a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll for her shutout at Seton Hall.
Corder is the first Bluejay to earn the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Award, senior Kelsey O'Donnell and Emily Roll have each grabbed Defensive Player of the Week nods this season.
Corder delivered the game-winning goal in each of Bluejays two road victories this week, 3-2 at Providence (10/3) and 1-0 at Seton Hall (10/6). The sophomore midfielder picked up Creighton's final goal to push the Bluejay lead to 3-1 in the 61st minute at Providence. Three days later she scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory at Seton Hall. Corder leads the Bluejays with seven goals this season.
Rice allowed two goals in the win at Providence, then recorded her fourth shutout of the season in Creighton's 1-0 win at Seton Hall. Rice's play was critical against the Pirates, making three of her five saves at Seton Hall in one-on-one situations.
Corder, Rice and the rest of the Bluejays return to action on Saturday, Oct. 12 as Creighton hosts DePaul at 7 p.m. in Morrison Stadium.
