Sarah Nelson Named to DI-AAA ADA Scholar-Athlete Team

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Creighton women's basketball junior Sarah Nelson was one of 10 women's basketball players named to the 11th Annual Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association Scholar-Athlete Team.An Omaha native, Nelson sports a 3.7 GPA and majors in Pre-Health Science and Finance.  On the court she equally excels, finishing second for the Jays in  scoring 11.7 points per game (387 in 2013) and led the Jays with 7.8 rebounds per contest (258 overall). 

The forward is also adept at finding her teammates, collecting 115 assists.  She was the top rated post player in assist-to-turnover rating in the NCAA at 1.89 per game, placing Nelson 41st in the country.

Nelson was selected to the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Scholar-Athlete First Team for the second consecutive year (2012 & 2013), Nelson also earned All-MVC First Team honors.

Basketball players from all Division I-AAA ADA member institutions are eligible for these prestigious awards. Each of the nominees was required to have a minimum grade point average of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) in undergraduate study and have been a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletics credentials. Nominated student-athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games listed on the nomination form.

To be eligible for nomination to the Scholar-Athlete Team, he/she must have reached JUNIOR academic standing at their institution (ineligible athletics transfers are not eligible). To be eligible for the Postgraduate Scholarship, he/she must have completed eight semesters or the equivalent number of quarters at their institution. Preference was given to those on track to graduate in spring/summer 2013.
