Scouting the Patriots
The Patriots return four starters and a combined 16 letter winners from the 2012 squad that finished 41-19 and went 2-2 in the Waco Regional of the NCAA Tournament. Anchoring the Dallas Baptist pitching staff is projected ace Cy Sneed (8-5, 4.45 ERA in 85.0 innings). Sneed started 17 games for the Patriots last season, recording 71 Ks in 85 innings.
The Patriots welcome back four players in the field, including senior outfielder Boomer Collins (who started his college career at Nebraska). Collins was the Patriots three-hitter last season, closing 2012 with a .374 average. He led the team with 13 home runs and was second with 58 RBI last season.
Sneed will look familiar to several Jays as the right-hander earned a victory in the second game of the 2012 season, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks in 5.1 innings.
