The Bluejays totaled 32 of the possible 49 points in the poll. Last season the Jays posted a 9-6-3 record, falling in to Northern Iowa in a shootout during a first round matchup at the MVC Tournament. Creighton finished in a tie for second at 4-1-1 in the MVC regular-season in 2011.
Illinois State, the defending regular-season and MVC Tournament champion, received 47 points including five first-place nods. Missouri State finished second with 43 points, including one first-place selection.
Northern Iowa nabbed the final first-place vote and 25 total points. Drake (20) and Indiana State (16) were picked to finish fifth and sixth respectively, while Evansville (14) rounded out the poll.
Senior Brittney Neumann was the lone Jay selected to the 11-member MVC Preseason All-Conference Team. The 2010 MVC Player of the Year, Neumann led Creighton with eight goals and 17 points last season. She started all 18 games for the Jays, collecting three game-winning goals.
The Bluejays wrapped up their exhibition season on Tuesday night as Creighton Minnesota State-Mankato. CU's regular-season opener is set for Aug. 19 as the Jays host Iowa State at 1:00 p.m. in Morrison Stadium.
