OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton men’s soccer head coach Elmar Bolowich recently announced the signing of Zabarle Kollie, a transfer from North Carolina State, to join the nine CU newcomers announced earlier this summer.

Kollie comes to Omaha as a junior with two years of athletic eligibility remaining. The 6-2 forward played in 18 matches at NC State in 2012, including five starts. He finished last season in third on the Wolfpack roster with four goals and 17 shots while ranking fourth on the squad with nine points.  During his freshman campaign in Raleigh, Kollie scored a pair of goals and added four assists for the Pack after starting nine of 20 contests.

Miller and Perez Make Preseason Awards List

TopDrawerSoccer.com recently released its 2013 Preseason Best XI list, which highlights some new names looking to make the most of their time in the spotlight this fall. Junior Eric Miller earned a spot on the organization’s Second Team as a defender while newcomer Ricardo Perez claimed a spot on the Freshman Team as a midfielder.

Miller spent the summer playing with the United States Under-20 National Team at the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey and the Toulon Tournament. He also earned a roster spot with the Portland Timbers U-23s of the Premier Development League (PDL) alongside fellow Creighton teammates Zach Barnes and Jose Ribas.  Despite splitting time, he ranked third on the Timbers U-23s with five points this season (two goals, one assist). Miller started 19 matches for the Bluejays in 2012, collecting three points on one goal and one assist.

Perez earned recognition as a 2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) High School All-America selection. He ranks as the No. 19 player in the latest TopDrawerSoccer.com Boys IMG Academy 150. Perez played in each match of the 2012 USDA Finals, where his Colorado Rapids U-18s finished sixth in the nation, scoring 10 goals.

Barnes Claims PDL All-Western Conference Honors

Creighton senior Zach Barnes claimed all-conference accolades during a 14-match season with the Portland Timbers U-23s of the Premier Development League (PDL) this summer.

Barnes earned a spot on the PDL All-Western Conference Team, the United Soccer Leagues announced after the season. The PDL’s all-conference teams were selected through a vote by team management. In 2013, he helped lead the Timbers U-23s to a second-place finish in the Western Conference’s Northwest Division during the regular season and reach the conference final for the second time in the team’s history.

As a midfielder, Barnes played every minute of the 2013 season for the Timbers U-23s, and his 1,260 minutes played over 14 regular-season matches tied for first among PDL players. In total, Barnes logged 1,590 minutes played between league play and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup matches, recording 450 more minutes than any other field player on the Timbers U-23s roster. Barnes tallied the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in a 1-0 victory against the Kitsap Pumas on June 21, resulting in an honorable mention nod on the PDL Team of the Week.
