OMAHA, Neb. - Seniors Lauren Cingoranelli & Kelsey O'Donnell will be honored prior to the match on Saturday, Nov. 2 as the Creighton women's soccer team plays its final match of 2013.
Last Week: 10/26: L, 0-1 (ot) vs. Butler - Morrison Stadium
This Week: 11/2: vs. Xavier - Morrison Stadium - 1 p.m. (CT)
Scouting Creighton (9-7-1, 2-5-1 BIG EAST): Creighton wraps up its 2013 season against Xavier on Saturday afternoon. While the Bluejays are disappointed by not making the BIG EAST tournament, Saturday’s contest provides an opportunity to close 2013 on a positive note.
For the Jays to do that, they’ll need to get their offense sparked. Creighton’s last goal came in the 17th minute against DePaul on Oct. 12, a run of just over 357 minutes (357:27).
Two seniors, Lauren Cingoranelli and Kelsey O’Donnell, will be honored prior to the game with Xavier. Cingoranelli’s Bluejay career was cut short by an ACL tear against Montana on Sept. 15, while O’Donnell is expected to be in the starting lineup for her final match.
Freshman Danielle Rice has played all but 30 minutes this season in goal, collecting 99 saves. Rice enters play on Saturday with the fifth highest save total in a single season.
Scouting Xavier (8-8-1, 1-7-0 BIG EAST) Like Creighton, Saturday will mark the end of the 2013 season for the Musketeers. Xavier began the season with an impressive non-conference record, opening 5-0-1 and entered BIG EAST play with a 7-1-1 mark. The conference schedule, however, has been less than kind as the Musketeers lone win came over Seton Hall (2-1) on Oct. 12.
Despite dropping seven of its last eight, Xavier has been in virtually every BIG EAST match. The Musketeers have suffered four one-goal losses, including a 1-0 decision to DePaul (Oct. 26) that saw Xavier outshoot the Blue Demons, 13-4. Ironically, it was Xavier that managed just two shots (25-2) against Butler on Oct. 20 in a 1-0 loss.
Freshman Tori Doss is Xavier’s leading scorer, with 11 points. Doss shares the Musketeer team lead with three goals and has a team-high five asssits. In BIG EAST play, however, Doss has just one assist. As a team, Xavier has five goals and six assists in BIG EAST action.
Rice Climbing Single Season Record Freshman Danielle Rice is having one of the most impressive campaigns for a goalkeeper in Creighton history. The native Texan has already cracked the top five single season save record with 99 saves in 17 matches.
Saves in Single Season 1. Denise Zaver 146 1990 2. Jaimie Thompson 106 2002 3. Lori Kwapiszeski 102 1989 4. Katie Jo Swanson 101 2012 5. Danielle Rice 99 2013
